How to Stop Unwanted Mortgage Solicitations
After you start your mortgage application and authorize us to review your credit, you may receive telemarketing calls and junk mail from other companies. This happens because the credit bureaus may legally sell your credit report information. While we are unable to prevent this as a lender, you can utilize the options below to stop or reduce these solicitations.
- Opt out of "firm offers" for credit and insurance. This stops unsolicited marketing that uses your credit bureau information. To do so, go to www.optoutprescreen.com or call 1‑888‑567‑8688. You may opt out for five years or indefinitely and opt back in at any time. Requests to opt out are processed within five days, but it may take several weeks before you stop receiving related solicitations.
- Add your phone number(s) to the National Do Not Call Registry. This stops telemarketing calls from compliant companies. To do so, visit www.donotcall.gov or call 1‑888‑382‑1222. It can take up to 31 days for telemarketing calls to stop.
There is no cost to use the tools above, and they do not impact your credit scores or your ability to obtain new financing or other services. Because there is a delay until these tools take effect, it is best to utilize them sooner rather than later. If there will be two borrowers on your mortgage, both people will need to follow the steps above to stop solicitations for each person.
